This course is meant to appreciate the administration of public finance in Kautilya’s Arthashastra. The course is intended to be delivered not through mere textual translations but through discussions of each component using the primary text. Also due emphasis will be given on the contemporary outlook of each topic. The course will deal with the Public revenue, Public Expenditure, Taxation, Budgeting and Auditing aspects of Public Finance in Arthashastra as well as the current system of managing finance or funds of the Government of India. The historic text Arthashastra is nowadays, widely discussed in the economic world and even many economists consider it as a torchbearer to find solutions for various modern day problems. In this context the course will benefit the students in their future endeavours.
