This course introduces students to the rich literary traditions of India's regional languages through English translations. It explores poetry, fiction, drama, and folklore from diverse linguistic and cultural contexts, highlighting themes such as identity, gender, caste, region, memory, migration and social change. By engaging with translated texts, students will develop an appreciation of India's multilingual literary heritage while examining the role of translation as a creative, cultural and political practice. The course also encourages comparative reading, critical interpretation and an understanding of literature as a medium for intercultural dialogue.
