Individuals work on fulfilling their individual needs and interests. But, there is a collective need and interest of several individuals of a given society that cannot be addressed by an individual who focusses on his/her own requirements. The collective need and the method to accomplish them are envisaged by very few individuals with special traits, who emerge as pioneers and leaders of the society. In every phase of human history, we thus need leaders to address larger issues of the masses and bring about a transformation in the lives of millions of people. This course focusses on learning from the lives of the leaders of India who has established and brought changes in at least four major fields viz., the political, business, social and spiritual leaders who seem to fulfil the ancient structure of human life consisting of dharma, artha, kama and moksa. The study would include examining the ways in which the leaders of India handled and debated upon the ethical component that is integral to any kind of leadership.
