Private International Law provides the basic framework for lawyers, and judges to think about the legal issues involving a foreign element. Inherently a national law with international objectives, Private International Law was under the constant pressure to amend itself according to globalizing forces. Though the underpinnings of private international law in global trade never receded, the constant interaction with globalizing forces introduced a trend that many law schools in the developing nations side-lined the course on private international law to the periphery of legal education. The trend is simply unsustainable in India for two reasons: (1) being one of the prominent emerging economies, India should avail the assistance of principles of private international law to achieve its global market ambitions, and (2) the resurgence of nationalism, populism and escalation of the counter-globalization trends will soon bring back the Private International Law into central arena.

The course shall provide a comprehensive and deep understanding of the foundational principles of Private International Law and shall also present overview of emerging trends, both challenges and opportunities.
