The course is the first Indian Knowledge Traditions Course to be offered in the LL.M. International Trade and Commercial Laws. The attempt is to discuss the Dharma and Niti Vichara on trade transactions recorded in the scriptures. The course is an attempt to explore the history of economic regulations in India. It shall help students to reconceive the customs and practices of trade which were in force during Mauryan Empire and Arthasastra reign. 



The role of law in international trade affairs is more complex than ever due to the blurring of the public and the private. In our post-graduate programme, LL.M. International Trade and Commercial Law, the private aspect of the trade is covered under the first trimester course ‘Foundations of Private International Law’. This course on WTO Laws aims to address the role of public law in International Trade.

This course on the World Trade Organization's legal system aims to discuss fundamental legal principles and procedures involved from two perspectives, “Trade in Goods” and “Trade in Services”. The individual agreements contained in the WTO Legal System shall be touched upon, but in-depth study requires personal commitment from the side of the students. The history of WTO trade negotiations and mechanics of dispute settlement body will also be discussed.

1. Distinguish the legal concepts involved in ‘Trade in Goods’ and ‘Trade in Services’ (CO1)

2. Interpret various provisions of WTO Agreements with a view to engage in Dispute Settlement Process.(CO2)

3. Examine the relationship between various foreign trade laws in India and the WTO Legal Provisions. (CO3)
