This comprehensive course explores the intricacies of human development, with a particular focus on the stages of childhood and adolescence. The content is structured into five modules, each delving into specific aspects of physical, cognitive, socioemotional, and personality development. Additionally, the course addresses prevalent problems and issues affecting children and adolescents, providing a well-rounded perspective on the challenges and opportunities within the field.


This course titled, ‘Social Psychology in Context’ is an essential and core aspect of the post-graduate Programme, providing an in-depth overview of social psychological perspectives, concepts, and principles of social psychology of practice in both clinical/health settings as well as organizational behaviour, which are necessarily enacted in social contexts. Social psychological perspectives, assumptions about social realities, social research methods and social psychological principles inform the gaze of the applied psychologist –whichever the specialization maybe. The course provides an understanding of key aspects of social cognition, social influence and group processes and their application of social psychological principles in health/clinical and in organisational contexts.

This course considers the major theoretical, application, research, and assessment issues in the study of personality. Emphasis will be placed on the theoretical aspects of personality and the different ways in which these theories are validated. The course will also explore some of the more commonly used personality assessment measures, cultural influences on personality theory as well as at least one non-Western theory of personality.

This core course provides a fundamental understanding of individual differences and uniqueness of personhood. The course examines both biological, environmental and epigenetic determinants of personality. Different approaches to the study of personality and theories emanating from such approaches are examined. Applications of personality psychology in various spheres is also examined. This course further introduces psychopathology by tracing its historical origins and merging them with contemporary views of abnormal behaviour. Further, it explores the various viewpoints on the causal factors of abnormal behaviour. This course also covers the process of clinical assessments and diagnosis. The etiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, and treatment of a few psychological disorders would be covered.

This course introduces contemporary behavior therapy by tracing its origins and depicting the behavioural model underpinning behavior therapy. Further, it explores the processes typical of behavior therapy. This course also covers the tools and ways with which behavioural assessment is carried out in behavior therapy. Different behavior therapeutic procedures would also be explored. Finally, application of behavior modification in various clinical and non-clinical settings would be examined.

This course provides a fundamental understanding of statistics and an overview of research process. The course explores statistical concepts and procedures such as central tendency and variability, hypothesis testing, etc. The broad range of research methods and research methodologies underlying them would also be explored. It covers topics such as problem formulation, operationalization, writing research proposal, research designs and data analysis.
