Introduction
SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) is a versatile software package designed to undertake a range of statistical procedures. It is widely used by researchers in the field of social sciences. Present course is designed to familiarize students in using SPSS for research purposes.
Course objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Understand the basic features of SPSS software
Use the SPSS Graphical User Interface effectively
Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using SPSS
Prepare tables and charts using SPSS

The understanding of human nature finds it's application in a number of fields of life. Health is one among them. Researches which examined health and illness from an interactive perspective in the past decades, proclaims that behavioural factors and psychological experiences of individuals play a major role in determining the health status. These researches also conveys the fact that psychological factors contribute to the aetiology of illness and play a major in determining it's course. The result was a new field of study called health psychology. Over time this field of science of psychology grew up and subsequent researches deepened our understanding of health behaviours and intervention techniques to alter psychological variables resulting in better health outcomes. The present course is designed to help students develop a preliminary understanding of philosophy of health, health models, psychological aspects of illness and ways to achieve better health.This elective course will provide an overview of recent approaches to health and well-being. The aim of the course is to help students to learn applications of psychology in for health and well-being.

Counselling as a helping profession is gaining popularity in different parts of the world. People from all walks of life are seeking help from professional counsellors to solve their concerns. With people accessing counselling, the demand for qualified professionals is also on the rise. The present course is designed to help students of psychology, develop a basic understanding of the art and science of counselling, such that as professionals you will be able to help the needy in future.
During the coursework, students will have the opportunity to learn the process of counselling, get acquainted with theories and models of counselling practice and enhance skills for counselling. The course will prepare students to take up advanced courses in applied psychology.
